The Full Story
My spiritual awakening and self-development journey began about a decade ago. I was unhappy, exhausted, directionless, and generally unwell. I had no idea what it meant to really care for myself and why I would want to do that. I knew I needed to do something, so I decided to revisit yoga. I had tried it before but it hadn't stuck, which seemed to be the story of my life. My yoga practice and community ended up being a life preserver for me and a safe space to begin to ask bigger questions about who I am and what I want from life. What I have learned is that my whole life, every little thing, was preparing me to be exactly where I am today.

I grew up in a military family, moved often, and attended eight different schools by the time I graduated high school. As I navigated new situations, I learned to observe people and their customs and began to notice human patterns, though I wasn't aware at the time that I was building valuable skills.

As a college freshman with no major and no clue, I took an anthropology class and Aha! As it turned out, my way of looking at and thinking about humanity was an academic discipline. I was sold immediately and ended my college career with an anthropology major and philosophy minor. But of course, learning about what people do and how they think only left me with more questions. And the ones about myself and my purpose only multiplied.

I shifted into adulthood determined to do my best to live well. Unfortunately, my understanding of what that meat was still quite limited. I focused on steady employment, got married, bought a house, and settled into a life that was very much in line with what I had been taught to value. But I was definitely not happy. I didn't like myself or my body. Very little about my life was actually working for me, but I didn't know that and I wouldn't have known what to do about it even if I had.

So when I came to yoga, new doors opened in my mind, heart, and soul. My body began to shift from enemy to ally. I came to understand that if what I was doing wasn't working, I could do something else. I started to believe that I deserved a life I loved and that I could actually have it. And these shifts in me have changed the entire landscape of my life. I embraced living authentically to who I am more and more and it only becomes more rewarding.

Several years into my self-discovery journey I found myself without a full-time job, without a spouse, without a house, and without a plan for rebuilding my life. I talked with family and friends and spent a lot of time thinking about which parts of myself feel like they have always been there; like they are inherent to who I am and what my life should mean. And it all comes down to helping people, sharing what I have learned on my wild ride so far, and being on the side of light in this world.

And so, at the urging of some of the people who know me best, I enrolled in a Life and Health Coach training program. And my personal growth took off. I learned so much more about myself and so many new ways of thinking about how to approach life, health, work, and spirituality. The skills I learned felt like a natural continuation of the work I'd been doing all along, and I could see the potential impact of coaching in my community. I felt energized in a brand new way, in a way that validated all my hard work and my whole journey.

I feel beyond grateful to be a Life and Health Coach. It is meaningful work that brings more happiness and fulfillment into this world, and it affords me the opportunity to continue to learn about other people and myself. For me, it is a dream come true, and one that has me convinced that your dreams can come true too.
